Neck Lift & Rejuvenation

Dr. Thomas Crabtree is experienced with numerous advanced procedures that can enhance neck contours, reduce the appearance of a “double-chin,” and create a smoother, more youthful-looking neck. Even among individuals who are relatively young and in good shape, the neck can develop prominent signs of loose skin and an aged appearance. If you are affected by this common concern, our board-certified plastic surgeon can meet with you for an initial consultation to evaluate your needs and talk with you about the best treatment option for your goals.

The four major neck rejuvenation procedures offered by Dr. Crabtree are outlined below. If you have questions about any of these options, please contact us today.

Traditional Neck Lift Surgery

Traditional neck lift surgery can be ideal for patients experiencing prominent jowls, neck bands, and/or moderate to severe levels of sagging, inelastic skin and fat accumulation under the chin and along the neck. During most full neck lift surgeries, Dr. Crabtree will create an incision that starts at the front of the earlobe and continues behind the ear to the posterior hair. Some techniques require different incision locations; Dr. Crabtree will talk with you about the most suitable options during the initial consultation. Fortunately, neck lift surgery is performed in such a way that residual scarring is typically inconspicuous and well concealed. Once the incisions are made, Dr. Crabtree will tighten the neck muscles, reposition excess fat, and remove excess skin. The remaining skin will be redraped and smoothed to eliminate signs of inelastic or “crepey” skin and produce a beautiful new neck contour.

Neck lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. This procedure will be performed under general anesthesia (administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist) in an operating facility. A one- to two-week period of recovery is typically necessary after a traditional neck lift procedure. Dr. Crabtree will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions describing what you can expect and offering a guide to how you can achieve the safest, smoothest recovery possible.

Renuvion® (J Plasma) Neck Lift

Dr. Crabtree is the first plastic surgeon in Hawaii to utilize the innovative Renuvion® (J Plasma) technique for neck rejuvenation. The incisions required for this minimally-invasive treatment are very small, and the recovery time is typically very short. The Renuvion® procedure involves the use of cold plasma energy to shrink and sculpt loose skin, which can ultimately minimize signs of jowling, tighten the skin, and produce renewed neck contours.

The Renuvion® technique for neck lifting can often be performed here at our office with a local anesthetic. The treatment usually takes about one hour to complete. Although a compression garment will need to be consistently worn in the treatment area for a few days, most patients are ready to get back to normal daily activities one or two days after the procedure.

Direct Neck Excision

A direct neck excision procedure, also referred to as a direct neck lift, may be a good option for patients experiencing what is sometimes called a “turkey neck.” This treatment involves the extraction of redundant skin via a special incision technique. Once the excess skin is removed, Dr. Crabtree will either sculpt excess fat that is contributing to the concern or remove the excess fat via liposuction. Direct neck excision can be performed in our clinic under local anesthesia and typically requires only a minimal amount of downtime. Results should be noticeable immediately.

Direct neck excision is not the best treatment for all patients; however, it can be an exceptional option for some individuals. Dr. Crabtree can evaluate your concerns and determine if you are an ideal candidate for this procedure.

Neck Liposuction

Individuals who are experiencing a “double-chin” or other aesthetic concerns in the neck that are primarily caused by excess fat rather than excess skin may only require liposuction to achieve their goals. Dr. Crabtree can perform liposuction to carefully extract excess fat cells and enhance the neck’s contour. The incision required for this treatment is made under the chin and is very small; therefore, the scar is often virtually unnoticeable.

Dr. Crabtree typically utilizes the state-of-the-art VASER® liposuction technique for these procedures, which can provide exceptional results while reducing recovery time. Neck liposuction can usually be performed here in our clinic and generally takes about one hour to complete. A local anesthetic is often all that’s necessary to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Most individuals are able to resume normal daily routines one or two days after the treatment; however, a compression garment will need to be worn for at least three days following surgery.
