This treatment can diminish signs of fine lines and wrinkles that often result in areas where pronounced facial expressions are made, such as between the eyebrows, around the eyes, and along the forehead. What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable neuromodulator designed to temporarily smooth away fine lines and wrinkles that have formed in specific facial areas. The BOTOX® Cosmetic solution includes a diluted form of botulinum toxin type A, which works to “erase” wrinkles by preventing the contraction of underlying muscles (which is often what causes lines and creases to develop). This treatment will not create permanent results; however, for the right candidate, BOTOX® Cosmetic can provide very effective rejuvenation and achieve individual goals without the need for surgical intervention. In some cases, BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be an effective “add-on” for patients considering a facelift or other facial plastic surgery procedure to produce a more comprehensive aesthetic makeover.

What Is Treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic Like?

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments often take just 15 minutes to complete here at our office, depending on the number of areas being treated. The BOTOX® Cosmetic solution will be delicately injected with a very fine needle into the muscles of the areas targeted for rejuvenation. To ensure any discomfort during the injections is minimal, we can apply a topical numbing agent to the skin. Most patients do not need a period of downtime after the injections and are able to resume most of their normal daily routines immediately. A mild degree of redness, swelling, and bruising may be present around the injection sites, but these effects should fade quickly and can often be easily concealed with makeup.

For most individuals, the results of BOTOX® Cosmetic last between three and four months; some patients may experience the effects for longer periods. Follow-up injections can often help patients maintain the results for an extended duration.
